The European Commission has accepted to finance the acquisition of 130 electric buses for the Polish capital’s transport system. Total cost of the project is €95 million, among which €41 will be allocated from the EU Cohesion Fund. The EU Fund will be used to finance both electric buses and the respective charging infrastructure.

The new buses will help reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality. It will provide Warsaw’s citizens with a clean, fast and comfortable means of transport.

“This new investment from Europe will very concretely improve the quality of life in Warsaw”, said the European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu.

A formal tender will be issued by transport provider MZA for the total of 130 vehicles to be delivered in batches of 60 and 70 units due by 2019 and 2020 respectively.

The buses should be in service in Warsaw at the beginning of 2021.
